Etsy's new payment account, explained: Current vs Pending vs Total

If your Etsy Payment account looks different and some familiar numbers have moved house, you're not imagining it. In September 2026 Etsy rolled out a redesigned Payment account, announced in its "Newly Crafted" seller update. Here's what each balance now means, and where the things you used to watch have gone.

Written 23 Sep 2026 from Etsy's September 2026 seller update and Seller Handbook announcement. This layout is still rolling out and Etsy says more changes are coming — details may shift.

The three balances

Current is money that's cleared and yours to work with. Pending is money attached to sales that haven't fully released yet — including, notably, any reserved funds. Total is the two together. A new Ready for Deposit section shows what will actually pay out, when, and whether anything is blocking a deposit — which answers the perennial "why hasn't my money arrived?" more directly than the old layout did.

Where did the reserve module go?

If your shop has a payment account reserve, the separate reserve section is gone — reserved funds are now folded into the Pending balance. The hold itself is unchanged: same percentage, same release rules (tracking confirmed in transit releases a sale immediately; otherwise the default holding period applies). It's a display change that has already confused sellers in both directions — some thought the reserve had been lifted, others that Pending had ballooned. Neither: the money just moved shelves.

The genuinely helpful change: fee timing

Previously, an order's transaction and payment processing fees were deducted from your available balance straight away, even while the sale's earnings were still pending — a small but real cash-flow drain on shops with slow-releasing funds. Now those fees stay pending until the earnings from that sale become available, so a sale and its costs settle together. Everything else — Etsy Ads, shipping labels, listing fees, subscriptions — still comes out in real time.

What's still coming

Etsy says the transaction history will get Current/Pending/Total tabs, and "expandable sales" will group an order's earnings and related fees into one entry instead of scattering them as separate lines. That second change may eventually alter how statement exports look — if you reconcile from the CSV, keep an eye on it (we will too, since our auditor reads that file).

Audit the new statement: the free Etsy Fee Auditor totals every fee category from your payment account CSV, and the Reserve Calculator shows how much of your Pending balance is reserve and when it releases.
